Neighborhoods
There are a few different neighborhoods where students studying at SUNY Buffalo will move. They all have a different atmosphere, so students have the option to find the best neighborhood for their lifestyle and budget.
Amherst has been named one of the safest suburbs in America. Located near North Campus, Amherst is made up of small residential neighborhoods. It is known for being quiet and is a popular spot for off-campus University at Buffalo housing.
Elmwood Village is full of trendy cafes, bars, and restaurants and lined with little boutique shops. Students are recommended to look for apartments east of Richmond Avenue and west of Lindwood Avenue. It is also located near North Campus.

Also located in the Elmwood Village is Pho Dollar, great for a warm meal on a cold winter day, and Sweet-ness 7 Café, a wonderful and unique place for brunch, breakfast, or lunch.
Along Hertel Avenue near Delaware Park, there are restaurants such as Bertha's Diner, Burning Buffalo Bar and Grill, and Deep South Taco.

Transportation
SUNY Buffalo has its own shuttle network where students can ride for free with their college ID. There are multiple bus routes that travel within the individual campuses, to and from the three campuses, and off-campus locations such as the Boulevard Mall and off-campus apartments near SUNY Buffalo.
There is also a bus that will take students to other major cities within New York such as Albany, Binghamton, Syracuse, and New York City during certain weekends, holidays, and breaks.
Along with campus shuttles, the city of Buffalo also has a metro rail line and city buses through the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority. This public transportation has stops on the three campuses and throughout the city and suburbs of Buffalo, making it easy for students to travel within the area.
Parking
Some neighborhoods near SUNY Buffalo do require students to have a car to drive to campus. Keep in mind that first and second-year students, if they are living on campus, are not allowed to have a car on campus. Commuters must register their car with the school and apply for a parking permit.
Parking is limited and some students may struggle to find a spot if they come to campus later in the day.

This nighttime shuttle bus operates on and off-campus for students throughout the night. It runs between 8 pm and 2 am and is free for students with their college ID.

There are several grocery stores in the area surrounding SUNY Buffalo. These include Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Wegmans, Walmart, and Tops Friendly Market. This gives students a variety of options when it comes to buying groceries from organic to budget friendly.
Also, near student apartments is the Boulevard Mall, which is home to stores like Express, H&M, JCPenney, Macy's, American Eagle Outfitters, and many more. Nearby the mall is The Boulevard Consumer Square, a strip mall with even more stores like The Christmas Tree Shops.
Downtown, students will find even more retail stores and small businesses where they can shop for clothing, shoes, accessories, and more.
