Neighborhoods in Berkeley
South Berkeley, near south campus, is an area rich with student activity. Undergrads tend to prefer this option for how close it is to campus and its proximity to other students. Southside/Telegraph Avenue is another area heavily populated with Berkeley students and businesses. From restaurants that offer student prices to secondhand clothing shops, this neighborhood is a hub for students. North Berkeley is another option that is quieter, but still is home for many students. Student co-ops and UCB apartments stand out among single-family units. Many graduate students choose to live in this neighborhood. Where you should live will really depend on what sort of neighborhood vibe you and your UCB roommates are looking for. Other neighborhoods popular among students are Albany, Oakland, El Cerrito and Richmond. Ike’s Love and Sandwiches is a frequent for many Berkeley students. The enormous, stacked sandwiches are well-worth more than a single meal, as you can split each sandwich over the course of several meals without leaving yourself hungry. Artichoke Basille’s Pizza is another go-to spot for students, particularly for those late-night munchies. U-Cha is widely celebrated among Berkeley’s boba lovers. From milk tea and boba to fries and snow ice, U-Cha is the go-to place. If you’re out for a night on the town, Jupiter is the place to be.
