Neighborhoods
It is mandatory that all freshmen students at UNLV live in a dorm on campus during their first year at the university. However, after their first year, many students choose to move to apartments located off-campus, but still within walking distance of the University of Nevada – Las Vegas.
The neighborhood where most students reside is located north of Tropicana Avenue, south of Desert Inn Road, west of Eastern Avenue and east of Maryland Parkway. There are plenty of apartment complexes within this area, as well as restaurants, bars, and stores. This neighborhood is also just a short walk from the UNLV campus.
In this neighborhood, there are many options for students when it comes to off-campus apartments. The Vegas Towers, for example, offers 1-2-bedroom apartments and has a resort-style pool and gym for tenants to use.
Avenue 965 is an apartment complex that offers studio apartments with luxurious finishes and updated bathrooms. The kitchens also offer full-sized appliances, rare for studio apartments.
Echo 1055 is another popular complex for UNLV students who want to live off-campus and features studios to 4-bedroom apartments. These apartments come furnished, which is great for students who attend UNLV from afar.
Rebel Place is a complex that is close to campus and offers tenants 2-4-bedroom apartments, a 24/7 gym, a community pool, and a cybercafé (which is great for getting homework done or working in study groups).
Maryland Park Apartments, located just north of campus, offers studios and one-bedroom apartments with a pool and free Wi-Fi included in the rent.

Dining
With University of Nevada – Las Vegas being so close to the Las Vegas Strip and downtown, there are plenty of great food options for students to enjoy. A handful of nearby restaurants offer discounts that students should take advantage of as well.
Big Chicken, a bar and restaurant known for its chicken sandwiches, offers students a 10% discount on their order with their student ID.
Alexis Park, a stylish resort, offers students a 20% discount with their school ID.
Stephano's Greek and Mediterranean Grill, known for its delicious gyros and kebabs, offers students a free drink with any meal purchase.
Fries N' Pies provides students with a great late-night snack of poutine and pizza, along with a 10% student discount.
Other popular restaurants among UNLV students who live off-campus include Sakana Sushi, India Oven Masala Bar and Grill, Durango Taco Shop, Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas, and The Modern Vegan.
As for bars, there are a handful of college bars in the area that students enjoy going to for happy hour and on the weekends. These include Double Down Saloon, The Garage, Champagnes, and La Jolla Nightclub. Do not forget that the campus is just a 6-minute drive from the Strip, which offers plenty of other bars, casinos, and nightclubs to enjoy on the weekend.
Transportation
While the University of Nevada Las Vegas does not have its own transportation system, it does offer students the U-Pass, which can save them up to 68% on public transportation. This can be purchased for the semester or monthly.
The city of Las Vegas has its own public transportation system, called the RTC. This is made up of many bus routes that have stops at the UNLV campus and throughout the city of Las Vegas, making it easy for students to travel throughout the area.
For students looking to travel further from campus, there are Greyhound, Megabus, and Flix Bus stops that have routes to other major cities throughout the country. The airport is also close to campus.
Parking
There are three parking lots on campus where students can park with a permit. University of Nevada – Las Vegas allows one parking permit per student during their time at UNLV. There is a free lot at the corner of Harmon and Swenson, but parking is not guaranteed.
There is also some street parking available throughout the neighborhood, but some may be metered or have a time limit. Most of the apartment complexes do offer parking spaces to the tenants.
Safety
The University of Nevada Las Vegas has its own police department, the University of Nevada Police Force, as well as ambassadors and security staff. There are blue light emergency phones located throughout campus that put students in touch with the police department within a matter of seconds.
When working late on campus, students can call for a Safety Escort to walk with them to their car.
Shopping
There are multiple grocery stores around the UNLV campus where students can buy their groceries. These include Sprouts Farmer's Market for organic groceries, Seafood City Supermarket, Vans, and a Walmart Supercenter.
For clothes shopping, there is a nearby Burlington and Target. There are also a handful of stores in the Tropicana East Shopping Center.
